Brian studied bassoon and piano at the Royal College of Music, He became interested in mediaeval and renaissance music, and worked with Musica Reservata and London Pro Musica before forming Gryphon with Richard Harvey. The band achieved cult status, released five albums, and toured extensively in Europe and North America. Brian was also a member of the French folk-rock group Malicorne.
