THE NEW SCORPION BAND - Educational Page

The New Scorpion Band enjoys working in schools and colleges. The band is happy to devise programmes suitable for all Key Stages and particular scenarios on any subject of "folk" life. (Industrial, agricultural, etc).

For Schools:

A typical day in a school might involve a large concert or dance, preceded or followed by shorter sessions with smaller groups.

For Music Students:

Band members can lead workshops and master classes on plucked string instruments, folk fiddle style and repertoire, bagpipes and folk wind instruments, history, style and performance of British traditional song and folk melodies.

See some New Scorpion Band School Workshop video-clips

Elements include:

Performing folk songs and tunes from the British Isles and explaining their origins and meaning.

Demonstrating a wide variety of brass, woodwind, string, free reed and percussion instruments.

An opportunity for children to try some of the instruments (group size and time permitting).

Teaching and performing folk dances with the children (circle, square, longways, etc).

Storytelling and theme presentations on folk music, customs, and life. Programmes can often be adapted to suit topics currently being studied.
