Tim Laycock

Tim Laycock lives in Dorset, and is well known as a folksinger, concertina player and songwriter. He has recorded seven solo albums, most recently Sea Strands for Wild Goose records. Several of his songs have become standards in English folk music circles.

Tim has worked extensively as an actor and theatre musician, appearing in productions at the National Theatre, and also at the Chichester Festival Theatre, Old Vic, Leicester Haymarket, and with the Lion’s Part at Shakespeare’s Globe.

Tim has set to music many poems by William Barnes and Thomas Hardy. He has also written and directed several plays on West Country themes, most recently The Distracted Preacher for the New Hardy Players. He is currently touring a new play Benjamin’s Book, based on a recently-discovered fiddler’s tune book from North Dorset.

Tim’s wide knowledge of English traditional music forms the basis of the repertoire of The New Scorpion Band.
